The city of Nizhhny Novgorod, in which the Nizhny Novgorod Medical
Academy is located, is situated in the European part of Russia, about
400 km east of Moscow. It is an ancient city founded in the year 1221
on the confluence of the Volga and Oka Rivers. The city is known for
its industries, mainly Electronics, Shipyards, Automobile and Aircraft
Engineering.
The Medical Faculty was established in 1920 as a Faculty of the Nizhny
Novgorod University. In 1930, the Medical Institute was separated
from the university and became an independent medical institution.
It attained the status of a State Medical Academy in 1994.
Nearly 3000
physicians have graduated from the Academy since its inception.
More than 500 teachers work in the 57 departments of the Academy.
Today, the Academy is perceived to hold the number 7 rank
among the medical universities in Russia.
Up-to-date medical equipment and modern services are available
to the students for their training and research work. The Academy
has its own well equipped Dental Teaching Hospital. The university
library contains about 50000 volumes. The anatomy museum of
the Academy is considered to be among the best in Europe.
Theoretical Departments are located in 5 spacious buildings
while clinical classes are carried out in the best equipped
teaching hospitals and research Institutes of the city. |
